TOKYO BUDDIST TEMPLE, KAMAKURA

THE JAPANESE SCIENTIST SITTING AT THE CENTRE HAS MADE RADIATION MEASUREMENTS AT THE ATOM BOMB SITE ON 8TH AUGUST 1945, THAT IS JUST TWO DAYS AFTER THE ATOM BOMB WAS DROPPED ON HIROSHIMA BY THE USA IN SECOND WORLD WAR. HIS NAME IS SHIGEYOSHI MATSUMAE, LIVED UPTO 1995. i AM (HOLDING INDIA TRICOLOR FLAG) IS FORTUNATE TO SPEAK TO MATSUMAE SAN. MATSUMAE SUFFERED AT THE HANDS OF JAPANESE DICTATOR MR.TOJO. MATSUMAE ADVISED THE GOVERNMENT NOT TO INDULGE IN WAR SO, TOJO HAS ORDERED REMOVAL OF MATSUMAE FROM HIS POST OF DIRECTOR OF COMMUNICATIONS AND SEND HIM TO THE WAR FRONT AS A PRIVATE SOLDER

During my six months stay in Tokyo Japan, (Sept 1986 to Mar 1987) I visited Kamakura Buddist temple. As we got down the train and came out of th rliway station one young Japanese girl came to us (I was with one Indian student who used to reside in the same Intenational Guest House, where I stayed). She politely requested us that she be allowed to speak to us as a guide. When I asked how much we have to pay, she told that she is interested to improve her English talking and for reason she is trying to guide us. Very True as she has shown us the Kamakura Buddist temple of course, she was finding some diffculty in speaking to us in English, however, she is successful in making us understand.

Kamakura is a city located next to Yokohama. Kamakura is well known as one of ancient cities in Japan. Kamakura was used to be the capital of Japan around 1200 A.D

The temple has big a big Buddha statue and incense sticks are always burning in fornt of the temple.

There are three floors inside the statue and we have climbed up into the top Head portion.

HIROSHIMA SHINTO SHRINE

DURING OUR STUDY TOUR OF JAPAN CONDUCTED BY MATSUMAE INTERNATIONAL FOUNDATION IN HIROSHIMA WE FIRST VISITED THE ATOM BOMB DOME WHERE THE FIRST ATOM BOMB WAS DROPPED ON THE CORPORATION BUILDING AT THE HIROSHIMA CIETY CENTRE ON 6 TH AUGUST 1945. SECOND ATOM BOMB WAS DROPPED ON NAGASAKI ON 9 TH AUGUST 1945.

AFTER VISITING THE ATOM BOMB DOME AND PAYING TRIBUTES TO THE DEPARTED SOULS OF 2ND WORLD WAR NEXT DESTINATION WAS TO THE SEA COAST WHERE THE SHRINES SHOWN IN THE PICTURE ABOVE . THESE ARE SHINTO SHRINES AND THE GATE LIKE STRUCTURE IN THE WATERS IS AN ATTRACTION.

One of the week ends during my 6 months stay in Tokyo,Japan I visited a Shintoists shrine where they worship the sun and sky.

From outside the shrine and Buddist temples all look some waht similar, byt the Shinto shrines have exclusely bright orange color painted over the beautiful wooden structures at entrace and all over.

Fascinatingly, I saw a well maintained lawn of white pebbles big and small and a few big stones. The devotees worship the same considering that the biggest stone is the sun god, the smaller one moon, grahas and stars in the sky. That is true worship of nature.SHITOISM is based on worship of nature and the SUN GOD.

SANJU SANGENDO KYOTOJAPAN BUDDHIST TEMPLE

During Sept. 1986 to March 1987 I stayed in Japan as a research fellow of Matsumae International Foundation and worked in Sophia University Tokyo in the Actuators and Transducers Lab of Prof. Kenji Uchino.

Matsumae foundation has taken us ona 10 day study tour of Japan.

Kyoto Buddist temple is the most attractive of all. The temple is built of wood and the outside structure is that of a shrine. Prayers are performed in Sanskrit. All Veda type Mantras are read by priests and various Gods in Hinduism are treated as incarnation of the Bodhisatva or Buddha himself. Kyoto is near to Osaka. This is one temple what the Americans didnot want to destroy during the world war - 2 for the cultural and monumental heritage. Kyoto was saved in world war -2 to see that no harm is done to the Buddist temple. TEMPLE IS KNOWN AS SANJUSANDEN-GO BUDDIST TEMPLE. THE MAIN DIETY IMAGE IS SHOWN ABOVE KANNON BODHISATTVA. THIS TEMPLE HAS A VERY BIG HALL WITH 1001 STANDING STATUES OF THOUSAND ARMED KANNON.  ALL THE IMAGES ARE MADE OF WOOD, A SPLENDOR VIEW.

IMAGES OF LESSER GODS GARUD AND VAYU DEV ARE ALSO SEEN.

In Kyoto I have also seen another beautiful temple in the waters. i do not remeber exactly the name of this temple of is it another view of the same sanjusandengo temple. But, we have crossed the waters over some stones laid in a systamatic form. The view of this temple is see below.
